You have to register as a job seeker at Jobnet.dk on the first day that you are unemployed. At jobnet.dk you also have to create your own CV, before your CV-meeting with your a-kasse and no later than two weeks after registered as unemployed.

To be eligible for benefits, you need to fill in and send a declaration of unemployment (ledighedserklæring or ansøgning om dagpenge).

The difference between the job centre and 'a-kasse'

When you are unemployed, you will be in contact with both your unemployment insurance fund (a-kasse) and your job center, and there will be a joint plan for your job search. If you are unsure about who does what, you are not alone. That's why we've outlined the main differences here:

A-kasse:

You are a member of the a-kasse and pay a membership fee.
The a-kasse is where you apply for unemployment benefits and it is also the a-kasse that disburses your benefits.
You receive personal advice on, for example, unemployment benefit regulations.
You get assistance with job searching and can participate in webinars and courses.
You can receive personal coaching.
The a-kasse continuously assesses whether you meet the job search requirements and are available for the labor market.

Job Center:

You are automatically assigned to a job center through the municipality you live in.
This is where you register as unemployed on jobnet.dk.
This is where you need to create your CV and register your job search activities on jobnet.dk.
This is where you make agreements about activation, internships, and wage subsidies.
This is where you report sickness or vacation on jobnet.dk.

1. Register as unemployed on jobnet.dk

On the first day of your unemployment, you must inform your job center. You do this by going to jobnet.dk and registering as unemployed. Here's how you know when your first day of unemployment is:

It's the day you no longer receive wages from your job. If you're on leave and still receiving wages, you should wait until you're no longer receiving wages to register as unemployed.
If you're on maternity leave or sick leave, you should register as unemployed from the day you no longer receive other benefits (such as maternity benefits or sick pay).
If you're on vacation, you should register as unemployed from the day your vacation ends.

Remember, you can only receive unemployment benefits from the day you register as unemployed with your job center.

2. Fill out the unemployment declaration.

When you have registered as unemployed on jobnet.dk, you must apply for unemployment benefits by filling out the form 'Ledighedserklæring' on Selvbetjeningen.
